Pollinators, like bees, butterflies, birds, and bats, are vital for life on Earth. Considered keystone species, many other species of plants and animals rely on pollinators for their own survival. Ultimately, pollinators are necessary to help keep our ecosystem healthy, stable and biodiverse.

According to Pollinator Partnership, 75%-95% of all flowering plants depend on the pollinators that visit flowers to drink nectar or feed off pollen and then transport grains of pollen as they move from spot to spot. This movement is essential for fertilizing plants, which helps make seeds, fruits, and new plants. And even though some plants can pollinate themselves or rely on the wind or water to move their pollen, many other plants need help from insects like bees, butterflies, birds, and other small creatures to facilitate pollination.

Unfortunately, many pollinator populations are in decline due to a loss of habitat which is necessary for feeding and nesting, as well as due to pesticides, disease, and climate change.

At Abanitu Organics, we are creating a pollinator-friendly habitat that features several flower beds which consist of flowering plants of different varieties. In addition, our Bluebird Trail, which consists of bluebird and songbird houses that are spread around the farm, are part of the pollination ecosystem. Abanitu is pesticide free and is a certified wildlife and pollinator habitat, and is a registered stop along the Butterfly Highway Project.
